It is four years until we start our World Trip. We hope to be away between one and two years.
This is a trip that will take us as little as possible by air, but having said that, we are not under any illusions that in some places it will be cheaper and more practical to fly, for example from Indonesia to Australia. Despite much research there is very little chance of getting to Australia by any other means.
As two older people, who will be doing this trip as cheaply as possible, it is quite a risk. I like to make things as difficult as possible in order to get the maximum out of the adventure so we will not be going first class rail or in four star hotels (unless we need a good break and rest). We will be travelling as the locals travel and staying as much as possible in homestays - exciting!
There is lots and lots of research that needs to be done. At this stage, planning a safe route, lengths of visas, what is available for us in each country, what we want to see etc. This will take the best part of the next couple of years to do. Once we have the itinerary and we get closer to the date then we will be able to cost out our trip and begin to obtain visas and tickets.
Can't wait to do this.
